FSSAI Candy Import India — Complete Compliance Guide

Importing candy into India requires compliance with FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) regulations — covering product registration, import licensing, and labelling. This guide explains what Indian candy importers need to know about FSSAI compliance, and how Candora Trading provides the documentation required for smooth European candy import into India.

FSSAI Central Licence for Food Importers

Any business importing food into India must hold an FSSAI Central Licence. This is separate from a state FSSAI licence (which covers domestic food businesses). Key details:

- Apply via the FoSCoS portal (foscos.fssai.gov.in) - Documents required: incorporation certificate, IEC code, site/office address proof, list of imported food products - Processing time: typically 30–60 days - Validity: 1–5 years (renewable) - Fee: ₹7,500 per year

Your customs broker or a food compliance consultant can assist with the FSSAI Central Licence application.

FSSAI Labelling Requirements for Imported Candy

All imported candy sold in India must carry FSSAI-compliant labelling. Requirements for candy imported from Europe:

Mandatory label information: - Name of food (product description in English) - List of ingredients in descending order of weight - Allergen declaration (bold/highlighted for the 8 major allergens under FSSAI FSS Act 2006) - Nutritional information table (per 100g) - Net weight/quantity - Country of origin ('Product of Sweden / EU' etc.) - Importer name and address (Indian importer's details) - FSSAI licence number of the importer - Best before / use by date - Batch/lot number

Candora provides all required product-level documentation. The Indian importer's details and FSSAI licence number are added to the label before retail sale.

What Candora Provides for FSSAI Import

Candora Trading provides the following documentation for each European candy product exported to India:

- Certificate of Origin (EU, confirming European manufacture) - BRCGS Food Safety Certificate (recognised by FSSAI as a valid third-party audit) - Product Specification Sheet (including full ingredient and allergen declaration) - Nutritional Analysis (per 100g, in FSSAI-compliant format) - Health Certificate / Export Certificate (from European food authority where required) - Invoice and Packing List (with HS code for Indian customs)

These documents are sufficient for your Indian customs broker to manage FSSAI customs clearance and any FSSAI laboratory testing requirements.

Common FSSAI Issues for European Candy Importers

Allergen labelling — FSSAI requires allergens to be declared in bold or a separate allergen statement. European products often have allergen information formatted differently. Candora can provide allergen declarations in FSSAI-compliant format.

Gelatin source — FSSAI requires the source of gelatin (porcine, bovine, fish) to be declared. Candora declares gelatin source on all product documentation, and supplies vegetarian (pectin-based) alternatives where required.

Shelf life — FSSAI requires a minimum of 60% of shelf life remaining at the time of import. European candy with 12–18 month shelf life meets this requirement comfortably if shipped promptly.

FSSAI does not require individual SKU registration for most confectionery — your FSSAI Central Licence covers the category. However, specific product categories may require FSSAI lab testing at import. Your customs broker advises on the current requirements for each shipment.

Yes. We supply pectin-based (gelatin-free) candy with full documentation confirming no animal-derived gelatin. This is important for FSSAI labelling and for Indian vegetarian consumer market positioning.
